Saturday, February 27, 7 p.m.: Havdallah and Megillah Reading

Purim SymbolDon’t miss the celebration as we usher in Purim with costumes and noisemakers. Dress up as your favorite character from the Purim story. Bring a box of kosher macaroni to use as a gregger. We’ll donate them to Yad Ezra afterwards. Light refreshments follow the Megillah Reading.

Sunday, February 28, 11:30 a.m.: Megillah Reading and Purim Carnival

Gather in the sanctuary for a family Megillah reading and costume parade. Then continue the celebration at our annual Purim Carnival. Food and games for the kids, Shushan Cafe for the adults. Don’t miss out on the Purim Palooza Raffle. You could win $5,000 when the winning ticket is drawn at 2 p.m.

Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Robert Dobrusin

RABBI ROBERT DOBRUSINWelcome Rabbi Robert Dobrusin, currently on sabbatical from Beth Israel in Ann Arbor, as our Scholar-in-Residence for this stimulating weekend. Rabbi Dobrusin will join us for Kabbalat Shabbat services and a congregational dinner on Friday evening. Following dinner, he will share stories from his upcoming book, which chronicles childhood memories that inspired some of his favorite sermons. Cost for dinner is $10/adult; $6/child 11 and younger; free for children 3 and younger.

On Saturday, Rabbi Dobrusin will deliver the d’var Torah and lead us in study at a Lunch & Learn that follows. The topic is “Finding Faith During Darkest Times” Lessons from Shushan and Egypt.” We’ll discuss some fascinating midrashim from the Purim and Pesach stories, how faith played a role in these critical stories, and how they hold meaning for us today. Cost for lunch is $12/adult. Call the synagogue office for reservations for these events.

Billiards and Bourbon

Join the Beth Shalom Men’s Club for an afternoon of pool, bourbon tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and a tin can auction at Snookers Pool Hall on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak. Cost is $25 for members, $35 for non-members. Join Men’s Club at the event and pay member rate plus annual dues ($50 total). Such a deal!
